Thank you for participating in the Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) surveillance
program in Utah. Hunter participation is vital to the success of our monitoring
program. All samples that were collected from hunter-harvested wildlife were
submitted to the Utah State University Diagnostic Laboratory for testing. The
tests that were performed have a typical accuracy rate above 90%, but no
testing process can provide 100% accuracy. Therefore, submitted samples are
only intended to screen for CWD infection. The sensitivity and accuracy of the
tests, or ability to detect CWD, can vary depending on the quality of the
sample and the stage of infection. Therefore, a result of “Not Detected” does
not exclude the animal from being infected, it only indicates that the
infection was not found.
